Founded in 1515 by the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, Havana, the scene of two wars of independence and one revolution, was the favorite destination of Americans during Prohibition in the United States, thanks to the nightclubs that had survived the restrictions of the laws provided.

Among colorful houses, iconic squares, historic buildings and other more modern ones, natural parks, and countless museums, get ready to experience a one-of-a-kind holiday.

Now let’s find out what to do and what to visit in the Cuban capital.

Havana: what to visit

To start our journey to discover Havana in the best possible way, we can only start from the oldest square in the city, Plaza de Armas, located in Habana Vieja.

This square, in addition to being the place from which the expansion and construction of the entire city began, hosts a flea market every day that is worth visiting.

Among the most iconic squares in Havana and the entire Cuban territory, we certainly include the Plaza de la Revolucion of inestimable historical value. It is one of the largest public squares in the world on which both the Che Guevara wall Monument and the monument in memory and honor of José Martí, a supporter of independence from Spain, stand.

Havana is also rich in museums, such as the Museo de la Revolucion, which allows visitors to immerse themselves and retrace the phases of revolutionary and pre-Columbian Cuba. In addition, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes houses one of the largest collections of paintings in Latin America.

In Habana, one cannot fail to take a suggestive walk at the Malecón. This approximately 8km long promenade is a natural meeting point for Cubans and offers the best sunset.

Havana: land of Rum, Tobacco, and Cabaret

Known for being the land of Rum, Habana offers the opportunity to discover all the stages of rum processing, fermentation, and aging in the Havana Club Rum Museum. In the museum you can also participate in the tasting: don’t miss it.

Another museum that is a must is the Real Fabrica de Tabaco Partagas. It has undoubtedly happened to each of us to hear about Cuban cigars. This magical city offers its visitors the opportunity to observe all the stages of producing the most renowned cigars in the world. In addition, it will be possible to buy genuine and authentic Cuban cigars inside the Fabrica.

Finally, you cannot leave Havana before attending the Tropicana Cabaret: a popular show that traces and brings to life about a century of Cuban tradition with a mix of music, art, and dance accompanied by plays of light and sumptuous costumes.

Everything takes place in an open-air theater, where the starry sky is the setting for an exciting and nothing short of magical atmosphere.
